Apps to Get You Into Shape for Summer

Summer is fast approaching, so what better time than now to start getting beach-body ready? Fortunately, there are all sorts of fitness apps to help people reach their goals. Here are just a few of the top apps to get ready for the summer.


MyFitnessPal is a calorie and exercise tracking app which allows users to set goals and track their weight-loss progress. MyFitnessPal uses personal data, like weight and height, to calibrate the necessary caloric intake and individual needs to reach their goal weight. Enter the foods eaten and MyFitnessPal will calculate how many calories a user has remaining for the day. Users can create their own food entries, search the app’s extensive database, or scan a food barcode. MyFitnessPal even allows users to log exercises and connect with friends for extra motivation.

Lose It!

Lose It! is another app similar to MyFitnessPal. Lose It! helps users control their eating habits so they can lose weight by logging diet and exercise. Like MyFitnessPal, Lose It! uses a person’s personal data and goals to help them set a daily caloric goal to meet their desired weight. Lose It! automatically backs-up a person’s food and exercise data and allows to share progress made with friends or keep it private. Users can earn badges for meeting goals and share healthy recipes with friends.

See Me Get Fit

See Me Get Fit is a fitness app which helps users see their progress through photos they take of themselves. Sometimes the scale doesn’t properly reflect weight-loss progress, especially if the individual is working on building muscles (remember, muscles do weigh more than fat). See Me Get Fit allows users to visually track their progress by comparing photos side by side so they can see theirr body improve over time. Users can also record their diet and workouts as well as set a target weight.

Nike+ Running

Nike+ Running is a great app for runners, or those who want to be runners. Nike+ Running records distance and time using your phones GPS and accelerometer. There is also an audio mode so users can hear their stats as you run. Nike+ Running has an option called PowerSongs which allows runners to listen to their favorite songs while they run. Special features of Nike+ Running include Cheer Me On and Share Run, which allows users to share their run on Facebook and get cheers from friends as they’re running.

Zombies, Run!

For unmotivated runners who would need something like a zombie apocalypse to pound the pavement, then Zombies, Run! is just the thing. Zombies, Run! is an interactive game where users have to complete running “missions” to save the human race and themselves from being wiped out by zombies. Throughout the run users hear audio broadcasts about their mission set over their own music. Zombies, Run! uses the fear factor of zombies breathing down your neck (users will hear hoards of zombies coming after them) for added motivation. This app is sure to get the heart pumping in more ways than one!
