Looking Ahead: The Hottest Video Games of 2014

Not all years can be as good as 2013 was for video games. In addition to many classic video games that were released, such as Grand Theft Auto V and Assassin’s Creed IV, the year we just left behind also saw the release of new gaming consoles Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Now that 2013 is gone, we’re looking forward to 2014. So here are the top 14 most anticipated video games of 2014 for both new systems and old.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is set to be released this year on both Xbox platforms and PlayStation platforms. The plot of the game takes place after Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and is a prequel to Metal Gear. The Phantom Pain uses an open world gameplay configuration.

Super Smash Bros is finally coming out for the Nintendo Wii U console. For those who loved the classic Smash Bros for Nintendo 64, this is one of the most anticipated video games for the last 10 year. Princess Peach will be a playable character once again!

The Walking Dead is coming to your video game console once again in2014. The second installment of the AMC zombie TV series is back and with any luck, it will be close to as good as the first “season,” which won game of the year honors. Usually games adapted after movies or TV shows aren’t promising, but after the first Walking Dead game, this one has some promise.

Dark Souls II is the follow-up to 2011’s action role-playing video game set in an open world gameplay environment. This game has very deep fantasy artwork that draws you in. The game play in the new version is rumored to be extremely difficult.

Mario Kart 8 is also finally coming out for the Nintendo Wii U console. The eighth installment of the classic Mario racing game is another one of the most anticipated Nintendo games in recent years. Fans of the Mario franchise are sure to love this game.

Tom Clancy’s The Division will be released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and a full-fledged PC version. The plot of the game revolves around a post-apocalyptic New York City, while the players are under fire from opposing groups. It is hard to go wrong with a Tom Clancy video game.

Final Fantasy XV is being developed for both Xbox One and PlayStation 4. It is said to be quite the departure from past Final Fantasy games, involving darker and more realistic environment. Still, this is one of the highly regarded games entering 2014.

Watch Dogs is another open world style video game set to be released in spring of 2014 for all video game platforms. This is a single-player game which takes place in a fictional Chicago about a character who hacks into various computer programs in order to get the information he needs.

In addition to the above games, 2014 also will see the releases of such highly anticipated games such as South Park: The Stick of Truth, Titanfall, Halo 5, Destiny, The Witness and Quantum Break.
