Spring Clean Your Technology
Your house isn’t the only thing that needs organizing and cleaning this spring. Don’t forget to add your desktop or laptop computer or other technology to your spring cleaning list.
Check out this handy list for tidying up your computer, mobile phones and tablets this spring.
Keep Your Computer Safe – be sure to install and run your antivirus software and rid your computer of any viruses or bots.
Erase Files – sometimes we treat our computers like digital junk drawers. There are probably tons of files hidden away on your computer that you will never need or look at again. Take the time to trash those files.
Erase Pictures – if you have already printed or posted pictures, then you might as well save some space on your hard drive and send some of those to the recycling bin. If you want to save them, then transfer them to an external hard drive or burn them to a CD.
Uninstall Software – just like files, it is easy to install something, use it once and then forget about it. Make sure to get rid of trial software, games you don’t play anymore and other software that is never used.
Clear Web Browser Cache – if you haven’t done this in a while, you need to start making this a monthly to-do. Your web browser cache can fill up more quickly than you’d expect.
Add RAM – if you want to improve your computer’s performance and want to give it a much needed upgrade, then increase its’ RAM.
Clean Your Hardware – clean and disinfect your keyboard, mouse and monitor. You can also take apart your computer and clean up any dust that has accumulated. Dust build up can weaken its cooling capacity.
Phone and Tablets
Delete Pictures and Videos – go through your pictures and videos and trash the ones that you don’t need to hold on to. If they have already been posted to Instagram or Facebook, then you don’t need to keep them on your phone.
Uninstall Apps – if you aren’t using the games or apps anymore, then trash them. You don’t need them wasting precious space. Games take up the most space.
Reclaim your Storage – instead of storing everything on your internal storage space, move stuff over to an SD card.
Give Your Battery a Longer Life – boost your battery by looking through your settings and dimming the screen brightness, and turn Wi-Fi and Bluetooth off when not in use. Get a second battery too or a portable charger to hook up when you’re away from an outlet.
Download Software Updates – don’t put this off. It will improve your device’s speed, fix bugs, and update your firmware.
Clear Your Cache – just like your computer, you need to clear your browsing history, disable unwanted options, clear cache, clear cookies, and manage extensions. Accumulated cache will slow down the performance.
Clean Your Device – not only should you remove the case and wipe away any dirt that collected inside, but you should also consider adding a screen protector to protect against scratches.
