Taking Advantage of Black Friday and Cyber Monday Deals

Published On November 26, 2014 | Tech Business

The day after Thanksgiving has become synonymous with rock-bottom pricing, door-buster specials and one-of-a-kind deals. Thanks to the booming e-commerce industry, the excellent shopping now extends all the way to Cyber Monday, the week after Thanksgiving.

With so many stores offering Black Friday and Cyber Monday specials on everything from apparel to smartphones, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. But fear not: If you’re in search of the hottest deals in tech this discount season, check out our list of the best places to look for those once-a-year prices.

Big-Box Tech Stores

The stores that specialize in technology are a natural place to start when hunting for the best pricing on the latest gadgets. This year, expect HDTVs, smartphones and sleek and slim laptops to be leading the way.

But be wary: these stores are pricing many of their items just to get you in the door and you may end up leaving with many more tech gadgets than anticipated and spending a heftier sum than budgeted. But of course, the obvious advantage is that you’ll find the widest selection on brands and models, so if you’re looking for a specific item, big-box tech is the way to go.

Big-Box Department Stores

Though their circulars will also be filled with clothing, kitchen appliances and toys, you’ll often find at least one or two pages dedicated to the deals on technology. The selection may not be quite as extensive as the dedicated tech stores, but most big-name department stores will carry the top brand names and hottest models when it comes to televisions, tablets and cameras.

Since these department stores depend on the holiday shopping season beginning with Black Friday to account for a large portion of their annual sales, you can expect excellent pricing. What’s more, while you’re there picking up your new 3D television, you can grab some cozy slippers at half off!

Office Supply Stores

Office supply stores sell more than pencils and notebooks, so don’t overlook them. You can find computers, printers and even cameras on deep discount next to the staplers and scissors. Since they know that these are going to be their hot sellers (who goes Black Friday shopping to pick up a ball-point pen?), you can expect competitive pricing on all office-related technology.

Or … Stay Home!

If cart-to-cart traffic isn’t for you, Cyber Monday is going to be your time to shine. Online retailers, usually the ones without brick-and-mortar stores, get in on the shopping frenzy with deep discounts you can enjoy from the comfort of your own home.

Unlike the undivided attention retailers enjoy when you walk through their doors, shopping online allows you to easily price shop. Stores know this, so you can often find excellent discounts with just a few clicks. Many physical stores reserve the best offers for those willing to schlep out on Black Friday, so for killer Cyber Monday specials, check out online-only retailers first.

Most stores operate on a first-come-first-served basis and when stock runs out, so does your luck, so research your selections before the big day and head into the shopping frenzy prepared to buy. Whether you choose to start camping out on line right after Thanksgiving dinner or wait it out until Monday, one thing’s for sure: there are tech deals to be had this year.
