The Biggest Mobile Releases of 2014 — and What’s Coming in 2015
It was a big year for mobile technology releases in 2014. The year we just ended will be remembered in the mobile world as the year that brought us the Apple iPhone 6 and the Samsung Galaxy S5, as well as the Apple iPad Air 2.
In the first half of the year, the debate was over which phone would be a better option between the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the Apple iPhone 6. Both were seen as very attractive options, except we learned later on that Apple was planning on releasing two versions of the iPhone 6.
Apple iPhone 6 and 6 Plus
Apple released the iPhone 6 in September, and in addition, also released a bigger version, the iPhone 6 Plus. If you were used to the 4-inch screen of the iPhone 5, the 4.7-inch screen of the iPhone 6 might have been particularly jarring. And if that was unsettling, then the 5.5 inch iPhone 6 Plus might have knocked you off your feet. It is only 2.4 inches smaller than an iPad Mini.
Both iPhones have proved to be solid additions to the mobile world, but many consumers have deemed the iPhone 6 much too big for their comfort. Some even feel that way about the regular iPhone 6, much less the larger Plus model. One of the key features of the new iPhone is the fingerprint ID scanning for security.
Samsung Galaxy S5
The biggest rival for the Apple iPhone is the Samsung Galaxy S5. The S5, which was released in April, has a 5.1-inch screen, which feels more compact than that of an iPhone because of a much smaller bezel. A Galaxy S5 feature that is quite unparalleled in any measure is its heart rate monitor on the back of the phone.
The Galaxy S5 and iPhone 6’s are being compared to each other so much because they are being considered as the leaders in the mobile phone industry at this time.
Apple iPad Air 2
As far as tablets, the Apple iPad Air 2 is widely considered the premier tablet on the mobile market right now. It features a faster processor, a thinner profile and the addition of a touch identification that its predecessor did not have.
Looking Ahead to 2015
So what can we expect in 2015? It is rumored that the next great Samsung phone, most likely the Galaxy S6, is just months away from being released. It may have two separate models – a standard edition and a curved one. The standard edition is also supposed to be a brand new design unlike its predecessor. It may be the first phone to feature Qualcomm’s 64-bit Snapdragon processor.
Apple is also rumored to be gearing up for the release of the iPhone 7 in 2015. There could be two new iPhones released in 2015, along with the Apple Watch as a complement.
