The Must-Have Smartphones of 2017
It’s a new year which means it’s time to start speculating about what’s in store for the next generation of smartphones. While there’s still a lot of mystery around what we can expect to see with the next crop of smartphones, it’s looking to be an exciting year. If you’re looking to upgrade your smartphone, you’ll have plenty to choose from. Here are some of the smartphones we predict everyone is going to be trying to get their hands on this year.
This year marks the 10-year anniversary of the iPhone, which has many people hoping Apple will skip their tradition of releasing a big upgrade every other year and mark the special occasion with the release of a major game changer in the iPhone 8. Not much is known for sure about the iPhone 8 but rumor has it that it will come with a glass and steel body, possibly have a curved OLED screen, wireless charging abilities, and no home button.
Pixel is Google’s offering to the smartphone universe. Currently available in two sizes, Pixel and Pixel XL come with the highest rated smartphone camera and Google Duo, which allows video chat between Android and iOS users, so you don’t have to give up FaceTime if you make the switch from the iPhone. The Pixel 2 is slated to have all of the features people loved about Google’s first attempt at joining the smartphone market with the promise of a better operating system and sleeker design.
Samsung Galaxy S8
Fans of Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones should find much to love about the new Galaxy S8 if the rumors are true. The rumors around the forthcoming Galaxy S8 point to the smartphone having a faster chip, dual-lens camera, and a 4K AMOLED display. The Galaxy S8 is also expected to look sharp with its bezel-less, curved design.
Samsung Note 8
After last year’s Note 7 fiasco, it may be surprising to see the next generation Note on a must-have list, but it’s hard to deny the Note’s popularity. The Note 7’s large screen and convenient S pen made it so popular that some fans were willing to risk the exploding battery. While not much is known about the Note 8, Samsung’s CEO D. J. Koh has made assurances that the new Note will be better and safer.
Nokia holds a place in most people’s hearts as being their first cellphone (which probably still works). A Finnish company called HMD will be releasing their new Nokia smartphone to the US and UK this year. The Nokia 6 has already been released in China, where it sold out instantly. The Nokia 6 will come in a sleek aluminum body with a 5.5-inch display.
Microsoft Surface Phone
Many are speculating that this is the year Microsoft enters the smartphone market with the Surface Phone. Although nothing is really known about the Surface Phone, it’s probably a safe bet that the Surface Phone will bring the Windows experience to the smartphone world.
There’s still a lot to be revealed about this year’s smartphone releases, but nevertheless, 2017 should be a big year for everyone’s favorite devices. Which smartphones are you most excited for?
