Top 9 Fitness Games to Get Your Beach Bod Ready

Published On April 12, 2013 | Gaming

Summer is just around the corner and many people are eager to start sculpting their beach body. But the weather isn’t ideal for everyone to head outside and workout. Video games offer a great solution. Get a serious workout from the comfort of your living room with these video games.

1. Wii Fit Plus

A lot of people are familiar with Wii Fit. It was one of the games that really launched the Nintendo Wii, and the addition of the Balance Board means you could burn some serious calories. Wii Fit Plus adds more types of training and mini games to keep you interested.

2. Fit in Six

This game by Ubisoft promises that you’ll be in better shape by focusing on six core areas: cardio, balance, upper body strength, lower body strength, core strength and flexibility. Create and save your own routines designed by real fitness experts. The game is available for Wii and PlayStation3.

3. Your Shape: Fitness Evolved

Enter a little information about your height, weight and activity level into this game for the Xbox 360 with Kinect, and you’re good to go. The sensors follow your movements to keep you on track, and you can go at your own comfort level.

4. EA Sports Active 2

If you prefer sports to general training, focus your eye on this game for Xbox, PS3 and Wii. The game comes with three sensors that connect to your console, so it’s not quite the same as others on this list, which tend to use native hardware. One sensor also monitors your heart rate, so you always know if you’re getting your blood pumping. Custom workouts in a variety of categories keep this game fun.

5. My Fitness Coach

Here’s another Ubisoft game, this one made for the Nintendo Wii. As the name suggests, this game gives you access to a personal trainer — a virtual one. Pick music to enjoy as you work out to more than 500 activities and track your progress via calendar or graphs with the game.

6. The Biggest Loser: Ultimate Workout

Jillian Michaels has plenty of fitness videos, and now she can be your personal trainer in this video game inspired by The Biggest Loser. Co-host Bob Harper joins Jillian as they also teach you to adjust your diet to be healthier. The Xbox version allows you to make video diaries and join an online community for additional support. It is also available on Wii.

7. Dance Central

Sure, this is a workout  disguised as a dance game, but it doesn’t mean you won’t sweat and shed some calories. Individual practice teaches you moves to songs from the hottest artists, and after you’ve learned them all, you can participate in a battle against your friends. Dance Central on Xbox Kinect tracks calories burned and offers different intensity levels.

8. Gold’s Gym Cardio Workout

If you want a serious workout without the serious gym fees, this is the game for you. Cardio, running, boxing and other activities all become possible from the comfort of your own home. Rather than entering your own intensity, this cardio game adjusts it based on your fitness level. Plus, the Wii game comes with a free week-long trial to Gold’s Gym.

9. Zumba Fitness

This latest dance craze is a great way to shed pounds and feel great, and you don’t need to sign up for lessons. The game is ideal if you’re already familiar, and it’s available on Wii, Xbox and PS3.

Pick up any of these games and get started on your summer body.
